Travelling Suitcase Project
The CBCA Northern Sydney Sub-branch committee has been working on a fantastic resource for schools to borrow - called The Travelling Suitcase project.
We have four (4) suitcases which are now circulating in schools. They have been collated by: intrepid adventurer and photographer Jan Latta and best-selling authors Belinda Murrell, Kate Forsyth and Louise Park (AKA H.I.Larry, Mac Park and Poppy Rose).
However, it must be noted that The Travelling Suitcase Project was not our sub branch’s original idea. It was actually the very clever Jenny Stubbs, Book Links and the Children’s Literature Centre in Queensland who initiated The Travelling Suitcase Project back in 2006. Read more about this interesting story here.
Lunch with the Stars September 2018
The 2018 CBCA Northern Sydney Lunch with the Stars was held on Tuesday September 4 in the gothic grandeur of Hogwarts (the grand dining hall of the old St Patricks seminary in Manly) to celebrate Book Week. One hundred and sixty children were dressed up as their favourite book characters and buzzing with excitement as they feasted with 20 of their favourite authors.
John Flanagan enthralled the students with tales of Araluen and Skandia, while Serena Geddes, illustrator of the Lulu Bell series, taught the students how to draw dragons. Other authors included Jacqueline Harvey, Tim Harris, Belinda Murrell, Kate Forsyth, Louise Park, Yvette Poshoglian, Aura Parker, Lindy Batchelor, Wendy Fitzgerald, Ruth Devine, Debra Tidball, Susanne Gervay, Sue Whiting, Lisa Nicol, Lesley Gibbes, Anne Donnelly and Jules Faber.
This is the ninth year that the CBCA Northern Sydney sub-branch has organised the Lunch with the Stars. Students were from 18 local primary schools as well as 16 children from all over NSW, staying at Stewart House. One boy summed up the day saying, “This was the best day of my life!”

LWTS at Manly was amazing as always. A room full of authors, illustrators, teachers and students were enthralled by the multi-talented Gus Gordon. And this year we got to share it with the whole world - the Premier's Reading Challenge filmed it and streamed it live with around 100 schools around NSW watching. How fabulous to share our event with thousands of school children! You can see the edited version here.
