Competition for NSW Primary School Students

Do your students love reading, writing and performing?

Then why not enter this year’s Stories on Screen, a competition where students can adapt a favourite picture book or excerpt from a book into their own multimedia presentation using a range of software applications.

Who?
The competition is open to all primary school students in NSW.

What?
• Working in small groups, students will select an Australian children’s picture book or adapt a favourite traditional story to give it an Australian feel and create a visual presentation of no longer than three minutes duration. Students can use any format but suggestions include Photostory, PowerPoint, Stop Motion Pro, iMovie and Moviemaker.

• A short portfolio should also be submitted to explain how the presentation was made, who was involved and evidence of copyright permission from the publisher.

When?
The competition will take place in Terms 1 and 2 2008 with entries due by Friday 4 July 2008. Winners will be announced at the NSW Children’s Book Council’s Book Week Luncheon on board the South Steyne during Book Week in August.

How many entries are allowed per school?
There is no limit to the number of entries per school. Teachers are encouraged to work with their students in teams to produce their entries.

Is there an entry fee?
Each entry (per group) costs $5.50 (inclusive of GST).

What are the Prizes?

1st Prize is $500 towards technology sponsored by Koala Books

2nd Prize is an educational software package of up to $250, sponsored by Scholastic Media and Technology

3rd Prize is a book pack valued at $150 for the school library, sponsored by Random House
