Competition for NSW Primary School Students Do your students love reading, writing and performing? Then why not enter this year’s Stories on Screen, a competition where students can adapt a favourite picture book or excerpt from a book into their own multimedia presentation using a range of software applications. Who? The competition is open to all primary school students in NSW. What? • Working in small groups, students will select an Australian children’s picture book or adapt a favourite traditional story to give it an Australian feel and create a visual presentation of no longer than three minutes duration. Students can use any format but suggestions include Photostory, PowerPoint, Stop Motion Pro, iMovie and Moviemaker. • A short portfolio should also be submitted to explain how the presentation was made, who was involved and evidence of copyright permission from the publisher. When? The competition will take place in Terms 1 and 2 2008 with entries due by Friday 4 July 2008. Winners will be announced at the NSW Children’s Book Council’s Book Week Luncheon on board the South Steyne during Book Week in August. How many entries are allowed per school? There is no limit to the number of entries per school. Teachers are encouraged to work with their students in teams to produce their entries. Is there an entry fee? Each entry (per group) costs $5.50 (inclusive of GST). What are the Prizes? 1st Prize is $500 towards technology sponsored by Koala Books 2nd Prize is an educational software package of up to $250, sponsored by Scholastic Media and Technology 3rd Prize is a book pack valued at $150 for the school library, sponsored by Random House Prizes will be awarded to the school and not to individuals. Student winners will receive a certificate.

FRUSTRATED WRITERS’ MENTORING PROGRAM 2008
We have now received an Arts NSW grant to run our successful Frustrated Writers Mentoring Program once again! All unpublished writers for children are invited to submit manuscripts to the CBCA(NSW) by Monday 30 May. Entry categories are: Junior (under 15 years), Young Adult (15 to 20) and Senior (over 20). Manuscripts are not necessarily confined to prose fiction. In the past we have had plays and poems as well as non-fiction submitted. This is a chance to be mentored by a published author! Judges Talk Luncheon

NSW Judge Kirsten Reim will talk about the experience of judging the CBCA Book of the Year Awards, and this year’s Shortlist, over a glass of wine, and a lovely two course
lunch, concluding with tea, coffee and sweet things. And there’ll be a Book Week Banner raffle and a lucky door prize. Cost to members, $50.00; non-members $60.00 (GST included). Print and send the flyer below now!
Elizabeth Street along Oxford St that stops at the intersection of Oxford Street and Queen Street. Take the 380 or 333 (which is a prepaid bus service). Please allow some extra time as our luncheon coincides with World Youth Day registration in Hyde Park.
There is a train to Bondi Junction and a 10 minute walk along Oxford Street (with Centennial Parklands alongside) towards the city. The Hughenden is at the corner of Queen Street and Oxford Street.
Parking is available in Centennial Parklands - 3 hour free parking. The gates are opposite The Hughenden on the corner of Oxford Street, Moore Park Rd, Lang Rd.
There is limited parking at The Hughenden, on Queen Street and along Oxford Street from the corner of Queen Street and Oxford St. (There is a clearway after 3 p.m.)
